Risks Associated with Tattoos and Fineline

A tattoo is a permanent piece of art.

A tattoo will always differ slightly from the initial drawing or stencil. Modifications may be required based on various factors such as placement, size, skin type, skin tone, and body shape. We strongly recommend you do your research on specific artists to see healed photos, previous work, and to fully trust the artist before getting tattooed by them.

There are potential risks of infection, allergies, and inflammation. Despite our strict adherence to the highest hygiene and sanitation standards, there is always a risk of a reaction. Some people may experience allergic reactions to tattoo inks, particularly colored inks. Sunlight and sweat can also cause rashes. While our artists will provide detailed aftercare instructions, it is your responsibility to follow the regimen.

In some cases, the skin can experience a “blow-out”. While harmless, this risk cannot be entirely prevented. Some areas of the body are more prone to blow-outs, such as areas with a lot of movement or stretch, such as fingers, elbows, knees, ribs, and inner biceps. Due to permanent nature of tattoos, we do not offer refunds or redo sessions based on dissatisfaction with the design, placement, or size once the tattoo is completed. Artists will offer touch-up sessions (see individual artist policy) to address any minor imperfections or healing issues.

Fineline tattoos, which use delicate, thin lines to create intricate designs, have become increasingly popular. However, there are specific risks associated with fineline tattoos. Fading, they tend to fade more quickly than bolder tattoos because they use less ink. Over time, the thin lines can become less distinct and may blur together. On the other hand they can blow-out as well. There is always ink migration, and with thinner lines it is more noticeable, causing the tattoo to look blurry or less sharp. There can also be difficulty in healing, any mistakes such as over-moisturizing or not keeping the tattoo clean, can affect the final outcome. Skin type and location can affect the longevity and appearance. Areas with high movement or stretching may cause the lines to blur faster. Lastly, the artist skill level may cause a different outcome. Fineline tattoos require a high level of precision and skill. To minimize these risks, we recommend you take a look at artist’s portfolios and follow all aftercare instructions carefully to help maintain the integrity of the tattoo.

Do your research on the tattoo aging process, possible skin conditions, or any other concerns you may have. All tattoos will change over time.

Ultrashade is not liable for adverse reactions or infections resulting from improper aftercare.
